Aliya Abs’ latest series is a meditation on connection, emotion, and the ephemeral nature of time. Blending still lifes with figurative scenes, she creates a narrative in which vases of flowers symbolize both renewal and fragility, while figures—women, men, and couples—embody love, longing, and security.
With a soft, muted palette and simplified forms, Abs invites interpretation, allowing each composition to serve as a fragment of a larger, unspoken story. The presence of men with cats introduces a subtle subversion of traditional masculinity, offering a quiet reflection on tenderness and introspection. Balancing structure and fluidity, pattern and movement, her paintings evoke a sense of poetic intimacy, where each viewer can find echoes of their own emotions and memories.
In Abs’ Own Words:
“In this series, I blend still lifes of flowers with figurative scenes to create a narrative aboutcloseness, emotions, and the transience of the moment. The vases with flowers symbolize bothfreshness and renewal, as well as the fragility of life. The figures–women, men, couples–embody various facets of love, longing, and security.”
